How often should I adjust my macros?
More times than not I find that people have the mindset that their macros should be changed on a weekly basis, but there is more to it than just increasing or decreasing your carbs/proteins/fats.
I suggest before anything, that you establish what your goals are and have a clear vision of why you are tracking your macros in the first place. Tracking is a great way to hold yourself accountable and stay consistent with your nutrition, but without a purpose you may loose sight of why you are even working toward adapting to this lifestyle change.
So when should someone change their macros?
This may not be the answer you’re looking for but, it depends. There are many variables that should be taken into account when looking to make any diet change.
If you aren’t seeing results on your current macros and have consistently followed your programmed workouts with cardio and are getting adequate sleep/recovery, then an adjustment may need to occur. Based on your goals, these changes should be subtly implemented, so be patient and allow your body time to respond to any new changes.
For well seasoned trackers to those just starting off, manipulating your own macros can be challenging. With so much science behind the actual process, you want to ensure that you are effectively making the correct changes according to how your body is responding.
This is where you can benefit from having an experienced coach who has dealt with clients all over the nutritional spectrum.
Investing in your health is priceless, so don’t short change yourself when it comes to training your metabolism.
