Client of The Week: Don!
Congratulations to our Client of the Week, Don!
I have been at Jada for around three years now. Previously, I belonged to a chain gym and was working with a trainer before he left for Jada. He recommended that I try it out but unfortunately, Covid hit and shut everything down. When things were finally open, I started back up at my old gym with a with a new trainer, but found that he wasn’t that knowledgeable. That’s when I decided to take a tour of Jada and have been here ever since.
I have belonged to a number of gyms over the years and joined a competitor gym with my daughter as it had a pool and she was a swimmer. I started using a trainer as it keeps me honest and gets me up and going even on those days when I don’t feel like it. The other gym is like many of the chain gyms. A lot of the clientele are not very serious about fitness and use it as a place for social gathering. I was looking for a more club-like atmosphere where the members, owners and staff are serious about fitness. Jada fit that bill on day one!
MY GOALS & BECOMING A PERSONAL TRAINING CLIENT
My initial goals were to get more muscle definition and to lose the weight that I put on during the pandemic. As we age, we lose a lot of that muscle definition and I wanted to stop the progression before it got too bad. I have now lost thirty pounds, am getting stronger, and have more definition.
After having knee surgery and hand surgery to lessen arthritis pain, I needed to work on strengthening those areas. That’s when I started using Dr. Jimmy at KinetXPT. It’s great having his practice located in the gym where you can get your Physical Therapy and then workout. I recommend him highly and his one on one service is so much better than all those huge multi client PT factories. The videos he puts together are a great touch so you can remember what exercises to do and when to do them. Class guy with a class PT practice and is a great asset to JADA.
My current goals are to continue with my progress and to build more muscle mass. I have never been able to bench my weight and would someday like to say I did it.
Travis is the best trainer I have ever worked with. His knowledge of the body and muscle groups is extraordinary and he uses that knowledge to develop personalized varied workouts that makes coming into the gym a pleasure.
What I enjoy most about working with Travis is he realizes that all clients are different and that I am not twenty years old any more. With that, comes limitations to many of the exercises that I can do. He caters to that and adjusts the workouts so that I can still progress without injuring myself further.
There is no one specific memory of working with Travis but on the contrary, every workout is a memory. He’s a great guy, and is friendly and professional all the time. He pushes me so that I can become a better me! My work schedule involves a lot of traveling and Travis works with me to get me in for as many workouts as possible.
From my experience here, I’ve learned the hardest part of going to the gym is just getting there. Once I am here and done with a workout, it creates a whole better outlook on the day. It gets the blood flowing and I’m reminded that I have done something for myself- making a better me.
JADA is a great club and you can either go just to work out or you can use so many of the other services they offer. They have many events to give back to the community that you can participate in. It’s actually not just a gym, but a community itself.
ADVICE FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT TRYING PERSONAL TRAINING
I believe that every person should try to use a trainer. I think the only reason that people don‘t is obviously the cost. The way I look at it is an investment in yourself and your health. What better way to spend your money than on you? When my workouts are over I feel great.
Most people working out are doing the exercises wrong. Travis has shown me the correct form to use and continues to correct me when I am wrong no matter how many times I forget what the heck I’m doing. You don‘t need to spend hours in the gym if you are doing the right exercises with the right form. Travis gets an A plus for his sessions.
THE FACILITY & STAFF
The staff at JADA is always friendly and helpful. It’s great to go to a gym where the owners are there and are committed to their clients’ health. I am on a Keto regiment and buy my meals whenever possible at Balanced Body. I was cooking separate meals for my kids and myself which was a pain in the butt. Buying the Balanced body meals takes the chore out of doing the cooking. It’s hard to buy ingredients to make a nice Keto meal and the price of purchasing everything or buying the Balanced Body meals is not that much different.
FITNESS IS UNDEFINED. WHAT’S YOUR FIT?
Fitness is about me. It’s about making a better me. So many of us take care of our families, our jobs, our homes and sometimes forget that we need to take care of ourselves. Going to JADA and Travis taking care of me, is something I do for myself.

Don came to me as a referral from Dr. McMullen, a physical therapist that I often collaborate with to ensure my clients are getting the best results.
