Client of The Month: Doug!

 In Client of the Week

Congratulations to our Client of the Month, Doug!

I’ve been with Jada Blitz Fitness for a little over 3 months now. I was interested in joining because I was looking to work with a personal trainer. After visiting other gyms in the area and not being impressed, I decided to check out Jada Blitz because it had high ratings.

MY GOALS & BECOMING A PERSONAL TRAINING CLIENT

I’m 60lbs overweight and was having a difficult time losing. Over the last several years, I have been doing the old yo-yo dieting and could never get myself motivated to go to the gym. My work schedule was also making it difficult as I would fluctuate between all three shifts.

Celebrating my 60th birthday was bittersweet- I started to panic. The amount of medications I was taking were stacking up for various ailments from high cholesterol to hypertension. I felt that in time, I was in line for a heart attack or stroke. This is when I decided that I didn’t want to end up in my senior years using a walker or cane. I realized that I want to enjoy fully my future retirement. That’s why I started back coming to the gym.

My initial goals were simple – go to the gym 3 times a week and lose weight. I’m happy to say that for the last 3 months, I’ve committed to my training sessions with Travis every other day.

So far, utilizing the gym’s InBody Scan, I have lost 9lbs and 5% body fat and gained 4lbs of muscle in 12 weeks. Being able to see the results on paper for what you worked so hard for is a great feeling and I am excited to continue this journey.

My goals now are to continue down the same road I’m currently on.  Over these next 3 months, I will continue to work out with Travis and I would like to mirror the same amount gains and loses of the last 3 months.

Travis has been the best personal trainer I’ve ever had. He listens to what my goals are and makes a game plan on how to achieve them. Travis continuously reinforces proper form when doing exercises, which I constantly need.

He is extremely flexible when it comes to training. For example, when my left knee started to ache while working out, Travis tapped into his wealth of knowledge and immediately gave me different exercises to perform to strengthen my knee. After several weeks of training, my knee felt better and I haven’t had any pain since. We then went back to continue with the original goals we set for weight training.

Travis has also assisted me with my nutrition goals. He sat down with me and gave me what my ideal calories, macros etc. should be and how to achieve them without losing lean muscle mass. I appreciate that he always asks if I have any questions during this process.

What I enjoy most about working with Travis is that he pushes me further, when I need it, to get the best possible results during each session. He comes up with various exercises so the workouts don’t become monotonous.  Travis explains and demonstrates each exercise and what muscle it utilizes. Overall, Travis is great at assisting and encouraging me to reach my goals.

One thing I’ve taken away from my experience is when you have setbacks on your goals, see what you can do better and get back up and try it again.

ADVICE FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT TRYING PERSONAL TRAINING

Personal Training has helped me with my fitness goals. Travis has given me guidance on how to perform each exercise, what exercises to do and to maintain proper form. If it wasn’t for having a scheduled appointment Monday, Wednesday and Friday and being accountable to my personal trainer to attend, I would probably be still in bed. Knowing I paid for the session and somebody is waiting for me, motivates me to go.

THE FACILITY & STAFF

I really enjoy going to the gym.  All the equipment is in good order. If a machine is broken is seems to be repaired in no time. I find the gym to be very clean. All the staff has been very friendly and professional.

Jada Blitz has an amazing team with everything you could need under one roof. Not too long ago while doing a deadlift, I did the cardinal sin of rounding my back and immediately felt the strain in my lower back.  Travis had me stop and gave me various stretches to relieve the strain. I was done for the day and thinking “This is it, I won’t lift for weeks if not longer”.
However, Travis referred me to Alex Miller, a Message Therapist at the gym. I hurt my back on a Monday and saw Alex the next day. He was great and worked on my lower back for an hour. After the session, I felt much better and Alex communicated with Travis on what exercises and stretches he recommends so I could get back to lifting. By Wednesday, I was back in the gym doing my upper body routine with a few adjustments. I didn’t feel any pain in my lower back. That Friday, I was doing my lower body routine with stretches and more core exercises. I felt better and hardly backtracked at all on the gains I made over the last couple of months.

FITNESS IS UNDEFINED. WHAT’S YOUR FIT?

Fitness is feeling healthy and able to do perform daily physical activities with ease.

MEET TRAVIS KELKENBERG, CPT AT JADA BLITZ FITNESS

Doug and I have been working together for a relatively short period of time and he has already proved to me that he means business. He is an ideal client in multiple ways- he comes in early to warm up, sticks to his nutrition, and puts in the work even when he’s having a bad day. Doug has made progress in every area. What I really admire is his will to put in the effort even after an injury. He bounced back and is stronger than ever. I can’t wait to see where the future takes him! Keep killing it, Doug!
